FAQ
Which Xaar printhead do I need?
Choose the Xaar printhead based on your printer, ink type, resolution, and required drop size. The Xaar 128/80 (XP12800005) is a 200 dpi, 80 pl head for oil, solvent, and sublimation inks, while the 128/80W (XP12800006) is designed for water-based inks. For finer output, the 128/40W (XP12800009) provides 360 dpi and a 40 pl drop size. The Irix Core 80L (XP12800071) and Irix Core 40W (XP12800072) are newer alternatives to the 128 series. For industrial applications, the Xaar 1003 GS-6U, GS-12U, and GS-12C offer 1,000 nozzles and 720 dpi, with different versions for UV, solvent, and ceramic printing. Always confirm the printer model and original part number before ordering.
What do the tag colors on Xaar 128 printheads mean?
The colored tags identify different Xaar 128 configurations and help distinguish their ink compatibility and specifications. The blue tag identifies the 128/80 (XP12800005) for oil, solvent, and sublimation inks. The purple tag indicates the 128/80W (XP12800006) for water-based inks. The light grey tag identifies the 128/40W (XP12800009), which offers 360 dpi and a 40 pl drop size. These variants are not interchangeable, so match the tag color, part number, and ink type with your printer before purchasing.
What's the difference between Xaar 1003 GS-6U, GS-12U, and GS-12C?
The three Xaar 1003 variants share a 1,000-nozzle, 720 dpi platform and Xaar's High Laydown Technology, but are optimized for different applications. The GS-6U (XP10100159) uses a 6 pl drop size for detailed UV and solvent printing. The GS-12U uses a larger 12 pl drop for higher ink deposition and productivity in UV applications. The GS-12C (XP10100157) is designed specifically for ceramic tile printing and is engineered to handle ceramic ink formulations. GS-12C is also the successor to earlier Xaar 1001 and 1002 ceramic heads.
Is the Irix Core a direct replacement for older Xaar 128 heads?
The Irix Core series is designed as the successor to selected Xaar 128 printheads. Irix Core 80L (XP12800071) replaces the Xaar 128/80, while Irix Core 40W (XP12800072) succeeds the 128/40W. However, replacement compatibility depends on the specific printer and configuration, so the original printhead part number and machine model should be verified before assuming a direct replacement.
