FAQ

Which Konica printhead is used in my printer?

Konica industrial printheads are integrated into a wide range of OEM printing systems from brands such as Agfa, Docan, Inca, Flora, Jetbest, Sky-Air, and Allwin. The KM512 series uses 512 nozzles, with MH versions featuring an integrated heater and MN versions without one. The KM1024 family provides 1,024 nozzles and includes MHB, MNB, and LHB configurations for different ink and drop-size requirements. KM1024i, including models such as MAE-C and 6988H, is designed for high-speed industrial applications such as textile and ceramic printing. Check your printer model and original Konica part number to identify the correct replacement.

What's the difference between Konica KM1024 MHB and KM1024 MNB?

KM1024 MHB and MNB share the same basic configuration, including 1,024 nozzles, 360 dpi resolution, 14 pl drop size, and 8-level grayscale. The key difference is temperature control: MHB includes an integrated heater, with heating up to around 55°C, making it suitable for UV and higher-viscosity inks. MNB has no built-in heater and is intended for solvent and oil-based inks that do not require additional temperature control. These versions should not be substituted without confirming ink compatibility and printer requirements.

What's the difference between KM512 and KM1024?

KM1024 offers twice the nozzle count and print width of KM512, with 1,024 nozzles and a 72 mm print width, compared with 512 nozzles on KM512. Both can use a 14 pl drop size and 360 dpi native resolution, but KM1024 supports 8-level grayscale versus 4-level on KM512, enabling smoother gradations and higher productivity. Its newer actuator design also operates at a lower voltage, helping reduce power consumption. KM512 remains a suitable choice for legacy systems, while KM1024 is better suited to newer, higher-throughput industrial printers.

What is the difference between KM1024, KM1024i, and KM1024a?

All three series have 1,024 nozzles and a 72 mm print width, but they use different drive technologies. KM1024 uses a shared-wall, three-cycle drive system, while KM1024i uses an independent drive system for higher-speed jetting. KM1024a uses an analog waveform, providing greater flexibility in controlling multiple drop sizes and optimizing print performance for different inks.

What drop size do I need -6pl, 14pl or 42pl?

The right drop size depends on your application and whether you prioritize fine detail or ink coverage. 6 pl (KM1024i) is suited to high-resolution applications such as photo-quality industrial and textile printing. 13–14 pl (KM512 MH, KM1024 MHB/MNB) offers a balance between image quality and productivity and is commonly used for wide-format UV and solvent printing. 42 pl (KM1024 LHB) provides higher ink deposition and is better suited to applications such as ceramic tile, glass, and industrial coatings where ink film thickness is more important than fine detail.
