FAQ

Which printhead does my Mutoh printer use?

The correct Mutoh printhead depends on the printer model, ink type, and head identification code. DF-49684 is used with solvent-ink systems including the ValueJet 1204, 1304/1304W, 1604/1604W/1604X, 1614, RJ-900C/X, and related models. DF-49029 is the corresponding water-based version for compatible ValueJet platforms. DG-43988 is used in models such as the ValueJet 1324, 1624, 1624W, 1626UH, 1628X, 1638X, 426UF, 628, and 628W, and replaces several earlier part numbers. Always verify the printer model and original part number before ordering.

What's the difference between solvent and water-based Mutoh printheads?

Mutoh offers different head configurations for solvent and water-based ink systems. DF-49684 uses a 24-digit head ID for solvent and mild-solvent applications, while DF-49029 uses a 40-digit head ID for water-based systems. Although the physical heads may look similar, their ink compatibility and identification are different. They should not be treated as interchangeable. Check the existing head ID and printer specifications before selecting a replacement.

Should I replace the head cables when installing a new Mutoh printhead?

It is recommended to inspect or replace the head data cables when fitting a new printhead. Older cables may suffer from wear, micro-cracks, or signal degradation, which can result in missing nozzles or firing problems. Installing a new cable together with the printhead can help eliminate cable-related issues and ensure reliable communication between the printhead and printer electronics.

How long should a Mutoh printhead last?

A Mutoh printhead typically lasts around 12 to 24 months in regular production use. Actual service life depends on the ink system, printing volume, maintenance frequency, and condition of components such as the capping station and wiper. Eco-solvent systems may provide longer head life than mild-solvent applications. Regular nozzle checks, compatible inks, proper cleaning, and timely replacement of maintenance components such as DG-41000 and DG-40356 can help extend printhead life.
