FAQ

Fujifilm, Dimatix, Spectra - are these the same brand?

Yes, they are all the same lineage. Spectra was the original brand that developed the Galaxy, Nova, Polaris and SL/SM head families. Spectra was acquired by Dimatix, which later became Fujifilm Dimatix after Fujifilm's acquisition. Older heads (Spectra Galaxy, Spectra Polaris, Spectra Nova, Spectra SL/SM 128) still carry the Spectra name; newer heads (Fujifilm Dimatix Sapphire, StarFire SG1024) carry the Fujifilm Dimatix name. They are sold and supported as one product family. If you have an older printer with a "Spectra" head, the replacement is found under the same model name in the Fujifilm Dimatix catalog.

Which Fujifilm Dimatix printhead family fits my application?

StarFire SG1024 — high-speed industrial UV and ceramic, 1,024 nozzles, $3,000+ range. Polaris PQ-512 — wide-format UV/solvent, 512 nozzles, balanced cost/performance. Galaxy JA / PH — legacy industrial heads still common in older UV and solvent machines. Sapphire QS-256 / QSR256 — high-resolution industrial inkjet, 256 nozzles, used in commercial printing systems. Spectra SL-128 / SM-128 — entry-level 128-nozzle heads for coding, marking and lower-volume industrial. Each product page lists exact printer compatibility.

What do the StarFire SG1024 suffixes mean -SA, SA-2C, SC, MA, XSA, LA, LA2Ci?

The SG1024 is a 1,024-nozzle industrial head, and the suffix identifies ink chemistry and configuration. SA — single-color standard, the workhorse variant for UV applications. SA-2C — dual-color version, 200dpi, two ink channels in one head. SC — ceramic ink variant, built for the demanding chemistry of ceramic tile production. MA — high-viscosity/specialty ink variant. XSA — extended-life SA for high-duty cycles. LA — light-color and varnish applications. LA2Ci — newer-generation LA with improved nozzle health and 2-color independent firing. The suffix is critical: not interchangeable. Always match the existing head's suffix before ordering.

What is the difference between StarFire SG1024 and SG600?

SG600 is a higher-resolution member of the StarFire family, with 1,536 nozzles, 600 dpi native resolution, and a 12 pl drop size, compared with the 1,024-nozzle, 400 dpi ceramic SG1024 models. SG600 also features integrated heating and full-channel ink recirculation. It is aimed at premium ceramic, textile, packaging, and other industrial applications where sharper details and smoother gradients are important.

Which StarFire printhead is best for ceramic tile printing?

For standard ceramic tile production, SG1024-MC is a strong general-purpose choice, offering a balance of image quality, speed, and maintenance. SG1024-LC is better when high ink coverage or strong color density is required, while SG1024-XSC is more suitable for premium ceramic products with fine textures and high-definition patterns. SG600 is another option for high-end ceramic decoration where 600 dpi image quality is required.

What is the difference between StarFire SG1024-SA2C, MA2C, and LA2C?

These models are part of StarFire's dual-channel industrial series, but target different production needs. SG1024-SA2C uses smaller drops and is well suited to textile and detailed graphic applications. SG1024-MA2C is the more versatile option for UV flatbeds, signage, leather, and general industrial printing. SG1024-LA2C uses much larger drops and higher ink throughput, making it better suited to single-pass, packaging, and other high-speed industrial applications
